Cadillac Mountain Road is closed to vehicles for the winter season, but many roads and most of the highlights are accessible. Sites on the agenda are Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, Schooner Head, Otter Cliffs, Sieur de Monts Spring, Jordan Pond, Eagle Lake, Duck Brook Bridge, Somes Sound, Historic Somesville, Seal Harbor, Seawall, Wonderland, Ship Harbor, Bass Harbor Lighthouse, and so many other panoramas and opportunities to explore! Wonder at the views from atop of the highest mountain on the eastern seaboard of the United States. From the shore of Sand Beach to the peak of Cadillac Mountain you’ll have the chance to explore the whole 27 miles (43 km) of Acadia’s Park Loop Road. As we meander along shores, coves, cliffs, historic stone bridges, through the woods, and up the mountain, your guide will introduce you to local history, lore, flora, fauna, and geology. You’ll have the opportunity to stop for photos and/or get out to explore as you wish. Sights will included the Wild Gardens of Acadia, Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, Otter Cliffs, Hunters Beach, Jordan Pond, Bubble Pond, Eagle Lake, and Cadillac Mountain Summit.

After descending Cadillac Mountain we will head to the one-of-a-kind Somes Sound. We will see more stone bridges, lakes, ponds, streams, cliffs, beaches and coves along the way. You’ll be inspired by the beauty of the Tarn, Hadlock Pond, Eagle Lake, Seal Harbor Beach, Little Long Pond, and the majestic vistas off the cliffs of Cooksey Drive where the rich and famous dwell. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty and serenity of Thuya Gardens, and/or Asticou Gardens, before driving the full length of Somes Sound by way of Northeast Harbor.

Take the road less traveled with our all points Mount Desert Island tour. You won’t miss a thing as this tour encompasses everything that the Sea to Summit and the Wonders of Acadia tours have to offer. Then we’ll continue on our journey to the picturesque village of Somesville, and scenic Southwest Harbor. We’ll see Echo Lake, the natural Seawall, and move on to the iconic Bass Harbor Lighthouse. Along the way you may choose to stop at a local cafe, bakery, bar, farm market, unique shop, or the perfect harborside lobster pound. See “off the beaten path” areas of the island. Explore Mount Desert Island’s “quite side”, take a peak into Acadia National Park’s “wild side”, and visit some hidden panoramas that the locals have been keeping secret.

Additional Information

  • When it comes to park passes and reservations you don’t have to worry about a thing! All park passes, fees, and reservations for Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain are included in the price of your tour. (Personal park passes can not be used on tours according to the rules of Acadia National Park) Thuya Gardens and Asticou Gardens have a suggested donation of $5.00, this will be at your cost.

  • All tours may be adjusted to suit your needs, give us a call to discuss options. Many folks want to take the time to add a lobster meal on the waterfront to their day, a visit to a local museum, gallery, bakery, brewery, farmers market, or popovers in the park. Extra stops such as these will be at your cost. Call/email as soon as possible as arrangements/reservations need to be made ahead of time.

  • How much you see is up to you. Your guide will advise you on times and provide options, but ultimately it is up to you how much time you wish to spend at a particular sight. For instance if you don’t want to leave Sand Beach we may have to skip another stop down the road.

  • All tours may begin/end at your preferred location on Mount Desert Island within a reasonable distance of the tour’s start/finish. Common starting points include your local lodging, campgrounds, local marinas/ports, Agamont Park in Bar Harbor, and the Hulls Cove Visitor Center.
